Another Thank-you from a part-timer....

Oh, what to do on weekends now?! Daytime weekend movies?  Cut grass? Shovel snow? Or, post myself on every corner of Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, passing out Y100rocks.com flyers??? I prefer the latter....

To echo Joey, there isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said.  I feel like there was (still is) so much to accomplish with Y100 and Philadelphia alternative music. The local bands, the new alt-rock bands from all over the world and huge bands (i.e. Weezer/Blink182/Franz), now have no home in Philadelphia. This makes me physically sick, and together we have to do something about it.

Considering moving to another "Rock" station in Philadelphia? Well, I guess you have to go somewhere, and I understand that. Just remember, that you are precious GOLD to a radio station. They should do EVERYTHING possible to maintain you loyalty... because they survive off of it.

<Stay positive, constructive, and productive.>

Alternative music must survive in Philadelphia.  With our without us, it must return.

To everybody who tuned in, on the weekends, words cannot express how grateful I am to have you as fans and listeners.  Stayed tuned and hopefully we will all talk to you again in the near future.

Peace Out!

Marco (Y100 Part time DJ 2pm-6p Saturdays)

a thank you to everyone

I don't there's anything I can say that hasn't already been said by everyone else, so I just want to say a big thank you to a.) everyone in my Y100 family, especially Jim McGuinn & Dan Fein and b.) the Y100 listeners for the mind-blowing online support and love you've shown us over the past few days. Of course, anything I could write, someone else has said better, so I give you some words from the Beastie Boys...a song they played in their encore at their show last fall:

"Gratitude"

"It's so free this kind of feeling
It's like life it's so appealing
When you got so much to say
It's called gratitude"

thanks to all.

I almsot don't know what to say... what a roller coaster the past 48 hours have been! I just wanted to jump on here to say thank you... to the great, soulful, trememdous staff of Y100, who has exhibited courage and love to a degree I never thought possible in a 'workforce,' to the outpouring of support from our peers (like Pierre Robert but also many many many others that have reached out to us and hope we will get another chance), but mostly, to the great listeners of Y100. I never knew I had so many friends. Today I feel truly blessed. For now, the revolution is not televised, nor does it travel thru the air via radio waves (unless you have a wi-fi connnection!) - the revolution is in bytes and data streams and it's being fought on the web with petitions, in chat rooms, and cyberspace. BIG thanks to the selfless staff of www.Y100Rocks.com who have provided us with a place, a home, and also - a radio station! Over the next few days we will try to fill it with more music and love than anything you can currently find on the radio dial... Jim McGuinn - ex-Program Director, Y100.

Paris Hilton's personal phone book

So these might be some fun numbers for you to call.  Apparently, they were lifted off of Paris' personal TMobile Sidekick.  Tell Fred Durst we say hi!

Somewhat Brief Grammy Reaction ...

I have to be honest: I was pulling for Green Day to win Album Of The Year - though they did win Rock Album Of The Year, it's no secret that the voting body of the Academy is sentimental. If you're a betting person, 9 times out of 10, if a person has died, smart money is on them winning a Grammy. But American Idiot is a phenomenal album, and all the nominations were justified ... and well, all due respect to the late Ray Charles.

But this ...

Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical: John Shanks

Here's what he produced:

Autobiography (Ashlee Simpson)(Album)
• Breakaway (Kelly Clarkson) (Track)
• The First Cut Is The Deepest (Sheryl Crow) (Track)
• Fly (Hilary Duff) (Track)
• Shine Your Light (Robbie Robertson) (Track)
• So-Called Chaos (Alanis Morissette) (Album)

Yeah - that guy's a HELL of a producer - we've all heard Ashlee Simpson sing live! He must be a genius! But to give the Producer of the Year award to a guy who helps subject the world to THAT, and Hilary Duff and Kelly Clarkson? Yikes! (Okay, the Alanis disc IS good, and I have lots of respect for Robbie Robertson ... but still... arrgh.)
Rob Cavallo should've won that one.

And speaking of producers, big ups to Jack White - doing his Rick Rubin / Johnny Cash thing with Loretta Lynn!

Best Country Collaboration With Vocals
Portland Oregon - Loretta Lynn & Jack White

Best Country Album
Van Lear Rose- Loretta Lynn

I could go on ... but why? (Okay, Motorhead won a grammy too ...)

Save Toby

Yesterday I came across what is either the funniest website I've ever seen or the most depraved...or maybe it's a little of both!  It's SaveToby.com.  Toby is the cutest little bunny rabbit you've ever seen and he is apparently in danger.  I don't want to give anymore away, so just go to the site and then post a comment on here about it.

Car Accident Witness Leaves A Voice Mail

We've been playing some audio from a very funny voice mail that's working its way around the internet.  Apparently, this guy called his boss to let him know where he was and, in the middle of the voice mail, witnessed an auto accident.  What ensued was quite hilarious - he gave a play-by-play of a beating these old women gave to the driver of the other car.  We had some requests to play this piece again, and we definitely will.  In the meantime, if you'd like to download the MP3, go to Preston & Steve's page (http://www.y100.com/morningshow.asp), click on the "Sounds" button at the top, and check it out!  Thanks to listener Wendy for letting us know about this!

SUV + ICE

It gives me great pleasure to see SUVs in snow banks after speeding past me on a cold morning.  I wish no bodily harm, just bruised egos. Oh yeah, GO EAGLES!

Thoughts on Moving ...

Since November of 1998, when I started at Y100 (yes, it's been THAT long ...), I've lived out in the [quite lovely] town of Media, PA.

Well, that's about to change - I'm moving closer to Conshohocken pretty soon, due to what we'll just call some "unexpected life adjustments."

I really hate moving - obviously, no one likes the heavy lifting portion of the program, but, it raises a few questions in my (feeble) brain:

#1 - "Where the #@$* did all this $&*% COME FROM?" - I am finding things I forgot that I had, and, even worse, don't know why, how, or where I got some of them in the first place!

#2 - "If someone offers to help you move, do they really want to, or are they just being nice, and are hoping that you'll actually say no?"

#3 - "If said person actually DOES help you move, are you then obligated to help THEM move?" - Well, that one, I can answer... Yes, it does.

#4 - "Why the $#*% am I moving in FEBRUARY?!"

Okay, that's actually all I can think of right at the moment ... but your thoughts are welcome.
