Another "Best of "04" List

I've been meaning to compile my list of favorite albums of 2004 for a little while now. I saw Marco made a Top 5 list. I can't limit myself to 5. I always prefer a top 10 list, especially this year, when there were so many albums that I enjoyed immensely! So here it is.

10) The Killers - Hot Fuss
9) The Prodigy - Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned
8) Interpol - Antics
7) Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
6) Cake - Pressure Chief
5) The Crystal Method - Legion of Boom
4) Green Day - American Idiot
3) Keane - Hopes & Fears
2) Jimmy Eat World - Futures
1) Muse - Absolution

But that's just my opinion...

I wrote a long and involved post explaining my top 5 albums of 2004...then I did something stupid and deleted it. Now, I've lost my patience and cannot re-write, what will now never be seen. So here is an abridged version of that spectacular post, that never made it to the y100 blog...

Marco's Top 5 of 2004

5. Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News
4. Phantom Planet - Phantom Planet
3.U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
2.Jimmy Eat World - Futures

And...the number 1 album of 2004...according to nobody but me is...................

1. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand - This band is saving Alternative Rock music as we know it. The album is great, and the only thing that matches up to it is their live shows. This album is by far...the best piece of music put out in 2004.

Disagree? Agree? Speak up and list your Top 5! (Y100 Deejays too)

Rock On,

Marco

Club Shooting In Ohio

A friend emailed me last night and told me about the shooting in the club in Columbus, OH - Apparently, a guy walked up on stage during Damageplan's performance, and opened fire, killing at least four people, including two audience members - before being shot dead by police.

And I just read confirmation from a local Ohio TV station website that among the dead was Dimebag Darrell, guitarist for Pantera and Damageplan. There's been no official word on Vinnie's (Dimebag's brother, and drummer for Pantera/Damageplan) condition.

I'm just in shock. Dimebag was an amazing guitarist, and Pantera was one of my favorite bands. (sighs) This is all just senseless.

Anthrax's Website has dedicated itself to mourning the loss of their friend (and collaborator) Dimebag. It really puts it in perspective for me. I think people tend to forget sometimes that musicians are human beings too.

I'll refrain from updating this again; the news media will have more timely information.

No Gifts This Year!

That's right you heard me...I want nothing to do with the holidays this year.  Unfortunately it's unavoidable.  But here's the thing with giving and receiving "Christmastime" gifts...there's so much pressure involved in getting everyone something that they'll like, but how do you know what that is?  The only person I can shop for is me!  Last night I walked all around the King of Prussia Mall.  If there's a place where you can find something for anyone, that would certainly be the place.  But no, I didn't find anything for anyone.  I simply don't know what people want or have already or what size clothes they wear (don't want to offend anyone by getting them too big a size, but you also don't want to get too small a size because then they'll be forced to go back and exchange it, thus discovering exactly what you paid for it and what a cheapskate you are).  Can't we all just give each other the gift of not exchanging gifts this year?  I'll promise to buy a gift for myself that I wouldn't have been able to get if I'd gotten something for you, and you do the same.  Isn't that a great idea?

I Just Don't Understand

I realize that it is getting colder OUTSIDE but I don't understand why people wear ski hats INSIDE. It is lame. If you are one of those types who attempt to pull this off,  I am sure you think that sun glasses indoors, at night is also appropriate (its not).

How great was the Feastival this year? All the bands rocked but I have to show some respect for Franz Ferdinand who put on a hell of a set with a replacement bass player (Toshi Yano from the band Fiery Furnaces). In case you didn't know, Franz Ferdinand's normal bass player, Bob Hardy was hospitlized in Japan with a nasty case of gastroenteritis on November 30. He is better now, he played quite well last night at a show in North Jersey.
